Cobra, the Brewery District hotspot, has done it again—this time, earning a prestigious spot on Punch Drink’s list of the Best New Bars in the Nation for 2024.

Cobra has established itself as a fan-favorite in Columbus fairly quickly, blending laid-back vibes with standout cocktails and a menu that keeps patrons coming back for more.

Punch Drink’s recognition highlights Cobra’s ability to create an atmosphere that promises “a good night, every night.” Their write-up describes the bar as “a self-described ‘good night bar’ that’s quickly become a favorite among local bartenders.” With a bold neon sign beckoning visitors, it’s hard to miss the energy Cobra brings to the Brewery District.

The bar’s aesthetic doesn’t go overboard—it’s unpretentious yet stylish, the perfect successor to the iconic Claremont, which closed in 2012 after 65 years. Now transformed with black-painted ceilings and polished concrete floors, the team at Cobra, led by co-owners David Yee and Alex Chien, brings Asian-inspired twists to classic drinks.

Punch Drink specifically shouted out the “Above Ground Pool,” a twist on the Margarita featuring mango, serrano-cilantro cordials, and a Sichuan salt rim. It’s no wonder it’s their best-seller.

If you haven’t been to Cobra yet, now is the time.

The bar is open every day except Tuesday, from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., offering a casual yet vibrant experience whether you’re looking for expertly crafted drinks or a laid-back night out.

Punch Drink describes Cobra as a bar where “there is little fanfare attached to how the drinks are presented” but where “it can live up to its slogan and turn any night into a good night.” So, if you’re looking for a new spot to hang out in Columbus, you can’t go wrong with Cobra.

Cobra is located at 684 S. High St, Columbus, OH, 43206. For more info about the bar, head over to cobrabarcolumbus.com.

“We are proud to have some of the most talented, knowledgeable, dedicated, and passionate staff members in the world on our animal care team,” said Columbus Zoo and Aquarium President and CEO Tom Stalf. “The fact that the Columbus Zoo and The Wilds were selected for this show is a true testament to our team as well as our supportive Central Ohio community that has helped to make our Zoo one of the best in the nation.”

Hold on to your vape pens and beanie caps, Columbus just became the most hipster market in the whole U.S.

That’s right. Not San Francisco, not Seattle, not friggin’ Portland, but Columbus was just named the hottest hipster market in America. At least that’s what a recent Yelp study determined. They combined forces with Realtor.com to determine the best housing markets in areas with a flourishing hipster economy (i.e. small businesses that specialize in locally sourced frozen yogurt, pho, or vintage anything really).

Photo by Kristian Gonzalez on Unsplash

It wasn’t just the whole city of Columbus that topped the list, no, they narrowed it all the way down to the very zip code.

And which, might you ask, is the most ironic D.A.R.E. tee-shirt wearing, 80s vinyl collecting, handlebar mustache rocking, neighborhood in all of Columbus? Clintonville actually takes the cake on this one (unsurprisingly).

The list was determined by the number of times “hipster” was mentioned in a Yelp review and by ranking each area by median days on market and median page views per listing on Realtor.com. After Columbus in the number one spot comes Seattle, then San Diego, and Fort Wayne (that one took me by surprise). What’s the rest of the list look like? No problem, I got you fam.

So Congratulations Clintonville.

I guess? Frigging hipsters. Also, one of you let me borrow your record player, I’ve got a vinyl copy of the Shinobi 3 soundtrack from Sega Genesis and I need to take this puppy for a spin. Yeah, I’m one of those self-hating hipsters, sue me.
